BEN GOLD JOINS SLINKY FOR A GOOD OLD CHAT!

At just 24 years old Ben Gold is one of the most multi talented names in the electronic dance scene. We catch up with him ahead of his appearance for Slinky this Halloween

At just 24 years old Ben Gold is one of the most multi talented names in the electronic dance scene. Ben combines a highly acclaimed career as a leading studio engineer with that of one of the brightest young stars in the trance scene, djing at some of the worlds leading clubs alongside world class dj's who all regularly fill their cd wallets with his latest work. This Saturday he will be starring alongside Adam Sheridan and Marco V at the Slinky Halloween Ball.

1. Hi Ben, traditionally with Slinky interviews we ask the DJs what they’re currently listening to, where they’re sat, and what their favourite TV programmes are just so we can get the picture.  Please tell.

OK, I’m listening to Armin’s most recent ASOT, whilst on my way to my gig at Elusive, in Leicester tonight. I don’t watch that much TV, but I always record The Apprentice, Dragon’s Den & Gordon Ramsey’s F word when they are on.

2. It’s that time of year again when the DJ Mag votes start to be cast.  Do you personally place any value on accolades such as the DJ Mag Awards and is it important to you to receive that type of recognition?

Yeah, defiantly. It’s a global event that can really change things for an artist/DJ. Everyone wants to be featured in the DJ Mag Poll.

3. For last year’s Halloween Ball the Slinky crew all revealed their scariest ever experiences.  Now it’s your turn so we’d like to know what event in your life was the scariest or most frightening.

Landing in Cork was pretty scary. I don’t mind flying, it’s never bothered me. However, I was playing in Cork last year, so flew over from London. We were told on the flight that the weather in Cork is terrible, but nothing more. As we approached the run way, I looked out of the window, and the wings were all over the place. That split second was pretty scary, topped off by the plane skidding as it touched down, due to heavy rain.

4. And how did you get into the world of Electronic Dance Music? Was there a defining moment when you knew it was something you wanted to be involved in?

I went to Ibiza with a friend and his family when I was 14, and got the buzz for DJing. I got some decks when I got home, and never looked back!! My love for producing came about a year later.

5. What track would you most like to remix and what track never leaves your box?

I really wanted to remix Andy Moor’s Faces’, so was chuffed when Armada asked me. I don’t play it often, but Scott Mac’s Damager O2 has never left my box.

6. Who have been the biggest influences on your career to date?

Good question. I don’t think its anyone in particular, its more a handful of people, including John O’Callaghan & Paul Oakenfold. Both have always sang my praises, and offered great advice.

7. What is the strangest thing that has happened to you whilst djing in a club?

Someone asked me if I was Judge Jules when I played alongside him at a uni gig. The girl was pretty plastered but still…!!

8. Is there anything you want to tell us about that will happening in 2009 and 2010 for yourself? For example any new tracks or productions or DJ gigs?

2009 has been a good year over all. I haven’t been able to spend as much time in the studio working on Ben Gold stuff as I would have liked, but I have upgraded to Logic 8 now, and its time to start working on my debut album. I’m hoping to have this released around April/May 2010. The gig’s this year have also been really good. I’m resident at Amplified in Derby now, which is a great party in Derby. I’m off to Australia and New Zealand in January 2010, which of course I’m very much looking forward too!

9. So what can the Slinky clubbers expect from you on the 31st of October?

I have some new material that I want to try out, including the new Be:Gold single, and a remix I have done of the new Matt Hardwick single. This is my second time at Slinky, and I’m really looking forward it. The venue is great, the clubbers are passionate, and the line-up is class.

10. Lastly, you’re a man of the world, and an all round knowledgeable guy.  With that in mind we’re going to leave the last word to you.

See you down the front!?
